Context: This guide covers the steps required to enable the stapling service within the Employer Portal. If you do not know your employee's superfund details, you can use the ATO stapling service to confirm if a fund choice is on record, and apply it for your employee – if found.
Configure Stapling Service
To set up the stapling service within the Employer Portal and request employees' stapled super funds, navigate to Settings > Contribution settings > Stapling service
On the Connection with the ATO screen, you can update your classification as an organisation.
Choose between Employer or TAX/BAS Agent. If you select the latter, you’ll have the option to provide the TAN or RAN number. Once entered, click 'Save'.
After updating your classification, the next step is to set up permissions in the ATO Access Manager. Click the link in Step 1 to open the ATO Access Manager.
Upon opening the link, log in to your ATO Access Manager account.
Next, search for Wrkr as your SBR software service provider using either the name Wrkr Ltd or ABN 50 611 202 414. Then, add your unique Software ID.
After setting up permissions in ATO Access Manager, check the box to confirm "I have set up the required permissions in ATO Access Manager", then click 'Done'.
After clicking Done, you can verify that the Stapling Service has been enabled in the Contribution Settings.
If you click 'View' on Enabled Stapling Service, you will see confirmation that the setup is complete.
Congratulations! You have successfully setup the stapling service and are now able to get the employees stapled fund. Next, we are going to show you the process behind actually utilising the stapled service with an employee.
Performing a Stapling Request
To begin, navigate to the Employees section and add a new employee.
Then, click 'Manual Input'.
Next, fill out the employee details, including their TFN (which is required for the stapling request). At the bottom of the employee details page, you’ll see a question regarding fund details: "Do you have this employee’s details?" Select 'No'. You will then be asked to declare that you are authorised to lodge this request. Check the box to confirm, then press 'Next'.
After continuing and filling out the employment details, you will be presented with a Review Page. This is your opportunity to review the employee's details and confirm that a stapling request will be completed upon adding the new employee. Once you’re satisfied with the details, select Add Employee to add them and lodge the stapling request.
Once the employee has been successfully added, you will then be prompted to click into their profile.
Click 'Go to Employee Profile', then scroll down to view the employee details and the result of the stapling request. If you are not satisfied with the result of the stapling request, you can edit the fund details to your preferred choice. There are many possible results from a stapling request, here are all the possible results:
Reason Code 1 – Unmatched
Reason Code 2 – Response not available
Reason Code 3 – No relationship
Reason Code 4 – Choice fund
Reason Code 5 – Choice SMSF
Reason Code 6 – Stapled fund
Reason Code 7 – Stapled SMSF
Reason Code 8 – Use default fund
